Hair growth is a very popular topic, and can be a cause of concern for those who experience significant hair loss. Is there anything you can do to boost hair growth?

Hair and Scalp Health

There are some essential vitamins and minerals that have been found to help with healthy hair growth, such as Vitamin B12, Zinc, Biotin, and Iron. Eating foods with high nutritional value like eggs, leafy greens, nuts, and fatty fish, can also be beneficial for hair growth.

One of the best ways to promote healthy hair growth is to start with the scalp. Our scalp is really an extension of the skin and we put so much effort into our normal skincare routine. It should be the same for our scalp to keep it healthy and well-moisturised.

A really simple trick that all of us can do is regular scalp massages. This stimulates blood flow to the scalp which can help encourage healthy hair growth. It’s also a great way to de-stress at the end of a long day! Try applying a little hair oil to your fingertips and gently massage into the scalp. You can also use a silicone scalp massager when shampooing your curls. This stimulates blood flow, and exfoliates your scalp to remove build-up - essential for a healthy scalp.

Prevent Hair Breakage

Using nourishing hair products will help to maintain your hair health, and reduce breakage. Regular deep conditioning with our Deep Hydration Mask will protect your hair as it is full of ingredients that hair loves like Vitamin E, Coconut, Argan and Shea Butter, along with essential minerals. The Hydrolysed Wheat Protein in this mask helps to strengthen hair and soothes the scalp - a perfect combination for healthy hair growth.

Hair itself is made up of protein, so protein is a key ingredient to reduce damage and strengthen the hair shaft. Using protein in hair products can also make fine hair look fuller.

Although it may not seem like it, regular trims are beneficial. Having your hair trimmed won’t make it grow faster, but it does ensure that the lengths you have are healthy and nourished. Getting rid of damaged ends is essential as split ends can travel up the hair shaft. This will cause further damage if not kept in check. Regular trims also help to get rid of any stubborn knots or tangles. This makes it easier to detangle your curls and reduce breakage.

Gentle Curl Styling To Protect Your Hair

There are some simple tips to remember when you are styling at home. When detangling, do all you can to limit damage. Gently finger detangling or using a wide-tooth comb is usually best, rather than brushing which can cause breakage and frizz. If you prefer a brush for tougher tangles, then make sure the brush you use is designed to be gentle on the hair. Using a detangling spray can also help to smooth any tough knots before combing.

To prevent further damage, try to limit the use of high heat when styling, and always use a heat protectant spray. Heat damage is a major contributor to breakage, so reducing the use of high heat makes a difference. Our microfibre towel is a game changer for air-drying your curls. It’s so soft and gentle, but it’s also super absorbent, drying your hair in record time! Hair is more fragile when wet, so it's best to dry your hair as quickly as possible while also still protecting it.

Diffusing is a great method of gentle drying, as the large diffuser bowl helps to disperse the heat so it’s not as concentrated as blow-drying. If using a diffuser, try to use a low heat setting to protect your hair even more. For our best tips on diffusing, check out our Frizz-Free Diffusing tutorial.

Another simple step is to protect your curls overnight while you're asleep. Cotton pillowcases can be rough on our hair, causing dryness and frizz. Try using a silk pillowcase or satin turban at night to reduce frizz and prevent breakage. They help to protect your hair overall, as well as maintaining your gorgeous curls - it’s a win-win!

Everyone’s hair and hair growth is so unique. Hair loss itself can happen for many reasons, with hormones, medication and stress all being common culprits. If you have significant hair loss and it’s something you’re concerned about, then it is important to consult a medical professional. The tips in this guide are some simple tricks you can try to help promote healthy hair growth. Have you found anything that’s really beneficial for hair growth and curls? We’d love to hear from you!

One thing everyone with curly hair wants to know is “How often should I be washing my hair?” The answer varies from one curly to another, since everyone’s curls are so different. Can you over-wash curls and what effect does this have on your hair?
This curly hair hack helps encourage the natural curl pattern into more defined curls. It's a great technique for all, but particularly good for those whose curls or waves need a little extra help clumping into ringlets.
If you’re just starting out on your curly journey, you are bound to hear some unusual curly words and phrases. “Squish-to-condish” is likely one of them. A simple technique that gives amazing results, it’s definitely one you’ll want to add to your wash day!
