The Muse Curls is a curl specialist salon in Northampton who use and stock Only Curls products. The salon was founded by Erica Liburd who began crafting kinky, coily, curly and wavy hair way back in 1995. She is vastly knowledgable about curls and now has a team of textured hair specialists. We feel honoured that Erica uses our products on all her curly clients.

What made you decide to focus on textured hair/curls?
I felt a responsibility to be able to serve the client with various curl types and textures, that never felt they could walk into a salon, have their hair cut and styled and walk out feeling fabulous.
I also wanted to ensure every young person would grow up equipped and confident in themselves, in a world that says your hair is not quite nice or acceptable."
Have their been any obstacles/challenges in your journey to specialize in curls ?
I sought out a college in Birmingham that catered for the specific area of Afro hair, then continued on with the remaining qualification back in my hometown of Northampton.
This continued to cause an issue throughout my 3 years of training.
A couple years in I decided to contact the designated authority at City and Guilds and ask the question, “why don’t we study Afro hair or Curls”, this is the response i was given.....
“There is no demand!”
If I could find that email i would frame it and send it to him in the post!"
What’s a common mistake you see people with curly hair making?
"Over complicating things .....
Caring for your curls doesn’t need to be time consuming or confusing.
Searching for answers on the internet is great but don’t get tangled up in the complexities.
Water is your best friend along with 3 simple steps to achieve healthy curls
Cleanse, condition and apply your preferred stylers that are suitable for your curls that doesn’t contain Silicones"
How would you describe a Muse Cut and how does this differ from a cut that you would receive from a non curl specialist?
"A curl cut at The MUSE is a bespoke dry cut tailored to the individuals curly hair.
No 2 curls are identical over the head and so cannot be cut the same.
Each section of Curl is cut freehand visually to creat a balanced silhouette to be worn curly.
A traditional cut is usually done with wet hair that is stretched out but this can result in an uneven unbalanced hair cut as the curls will dry at different lengths. This is suited to the individual that wears the hair in a straight style
