Pre-poo is short for pre-shampoo, and it is an essential step in curl care that involves prepping your hair with a treatment before shampooing. This offers numerous benefits, including strengthening and softening the hair, as well as making your curls easier to detangle.

By incorporating a pre-poo treatment into your routine, you can protect your hair and reduce breakage, ensuring your curls stay healthy and hydrated.

The Benefits of a Pre-Poo Treatment

  • Strengthens and softens the hair: A pre-poo treatment infuses your curls with essential nutrients, making them stronger and more resilient. It also softens the hair, giving it a smoother, more manageable texture.
  • Eases detangling: Pre-poo treatments aid in detangling your hair, helping to reduce breakage and makes your wash and style routine more manageable.
  • Protects against moisture loss: Shampooing can strip your hair of its natural oils. A pre-poo treatment creates a protective barrier, preventing your shampoo from stripping away essential moisture.

How to Apply a Pre-Poo Treatment

Step 1: Section your hair

Divide your hair into sections to ensure the product is evenly distributed.

Step 2: Apply the treatment

  • Nourishing Hair Oil: Apply on damp or dry hair.
  • Deep Hydration Hair Mask: Wet your hair first for maximum absorption.
  • All Curl Conditioner: Apply on wet hair for extra slip.

Step 3: Detangle

Use a wide-tooth comb or our gentle Denman Brush to detangle each section, and ensure the product is evenly distributed.

Step 4: Leave the treatment on to work its magic

  • Hair Mask: Leave on for about 20 minutes.
  • Conditioner: Leave on for a few minutes before shampooing.
  • Hair Oil: For best results, leave on for 1-2 hours, or even overnight for a more intensive treatment.

With the Hair Oil, try using a scalp massager to gently massage the oil into your scalp, to exfoliate and help promote healthy hair growth.

Step 5: Rinse and wash

After allowing the pre-poo treatment to sit, rinse thoroughly. Follow with the Only Curls Cleanser, Conditioner, and your usual styling routine. Ensure you rinse well after conditioning to avoid any product residue.
