How do hormones affect curly hair?

How do hormones affect curly hair?

We get asked this question a lot, so thought we'd answer in our TikTok Q&A series. Here's Lizzie with the answer...

Question: "Hey can hormones kill of curls? My hair used to be so curly and now it's just wavey"

Answer: Yes, hormones massively affect your hair. So puberty, having a baby, menopause, all three of those things can really change your hair. I'm dealing with much more wavy hair these days after having a baby 18 months ago. So I think I'm a good person to answer your questions because I can give you some good wavy hair tips.

Number one, try a stronghold gel. This is our Mega Hold Gel. It's actually amazing on waves. And it's not something people necessarily think it would be perfect for waves because you think a strong hold gel I think as being something more for curly curly curls, but actually because it's sticky. And it really holds the curls up in the drying process and then creates a cast around the curls and leaves a stronger hold. And that's actually really good for wavy hair. So I would give that a try.

Second thing that you can do in the styling process. So when your hair's wet after you've applied it curl creme, do some finger coiling. And that can really just help encourage the curl pattern. And so that's manipulating your curls a little bit, but it definitely helps as well as brush styling. So everyone loves the Denman brush. It doesn't have to be the Denman, but using a brush to twist those curls into shape, and we'll pop some tutorials on our page for Denman, brush curling, and finger coiling to help you.

Summer is a season full of sunshine, beach days, and outdoor fun, but for those with curly hair, it can also bring some challenges. The combination of heat, humidity, and UV rays can leave your curls feeling dry, frizzy, and unmanageable. Fear not! With the right products and techniques, you can keep your curly hair looking fabulous all summer long. Here are some expert tips and tricks to help you manage your curly hair during the summer months.
Pre-poo is short for pre-shampoo, and it is an essential step in curl care that involves prepping your hair with a treatment before shampooing. This offers numerous benefits, including strengthening and softening the hair, as well as making your curls easier to detangle. By incorporating a pre-poo treatment into your routine, you can protect your hair and reduce breakage, ensuring your curls stay healthy and hydrated.
